Client Background

Imperial College London is the only UK university to focus entirely on science, engineering and medicine. The Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery is at the forefront of research in imaging, sensing and robotics, developing safe, effective and accessible technologies that can reshape the future of healthcare.

Monmouth Scientific | Case Studies | Imperial College LondonKey Objectives

Head of the Research Facilities Florent Seichepine approached Monmouth in mid 2017 in search of a solution to guarantee a highly clean environment within which to continue research and construction of the centre’s latest medical robot for use on the human body, alongside work on sensory implants.

Our Solution

Our experienced team identified Modular Cleanroom as the ideal solution to meet the needs of Florent and his team who would be assembling and packing the medical robot and working with Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) technologies.

The 8m x 4m area was constructed from a free-standing aluminium framework which was assembled on site in just a few hours. The room’s panel walling was constructed from aluminium composite and clear non-break polycarbonate created window panes.

Air cleaning filtration device(s) are fixed to the outside walls or ceiling and as air enters the room it is drawn through a HEPA filter (99.997% efficient at 0.3 microns) creating a positive pressure and ISO Class 7 clean air environment.

The Cleanroom included a changing atrium, sliding doors and transfer hatches to allow the safe and easy passing of items into the clean air environment.

The project’s most bespoke requirement was a UV Filter which was applied to both the lighting and window panes to project the ongoing processes inside the room.

The Visionaire® Touchscreen Control Interface allows the technicians to control & monitor all aspects of the room’s operation.

Inside the Cleanroom Florent and his team are also using the Monmouth Circulaire® Filtration Fume Cupboard, protecting the staff from potentially harmful toxins, and the Circulaire® Vertical Laminar Flow Cabinet to further enhance their intricate work.

“We had an 8m x 4m Cleanroom installed for our medical rob otic project. Monmouth have excelled from the initial contact, to installation, to help and professionalism solving installation issues.

It has been a pleasure to work with Monmouth Scientific. The Cleanroom is of high quality and I certainly recommend them.”
