Operation
The Class 2 Biological Safety Cabinet utilises a combination of inflow and downflow air to create a sterile work environment. Air passes through HEPA filters before entering the work area, protecting samples and operators from airborne contaminants. Exhaust air is filtered again before release, maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
Type A2
In a Recirculating Type A2 MSC air is drawn in through the front aperture, providing operator protection. The inflow air mixes with the downflow air as it enters the front intake grille and passes through the plenum where the air is split into exhaust systems.
- 70% of the air is recycled and pushed back into the Work Area through the downflow HEPA Filtration, providing product protection.
- 30% is returned through the Exhaust Air HEPA Filter back into the laboratory environment.
Type C1
A Type C1 MSC utilises the same airflow pattern as a Type A2. The addition of an Anti-Blowback Valve directs 30% Exhaust Air through an External Duct System.
Carbon Exhaust System
If chemicals are used a Carbon Filtered Exhaust system may be installed after or as part of the Exhaust HEPA Filter, making a Type A2 Cabinet suitable for the handling of hazardous chemicals.
