Product Description.

Recirculating Fume Cupboards can be installed anywhere within your workspace and, thanks to our advanced carbon filtration technology, require no ducting to an external environment. This system utilises high-efficiency filters to provide optimal protection for users without the need for external ventilation. Its compact design makes it ideal for spaces with limited access to an external exhaust, offering a reliable and energy-efficient alternative to traditional fume hoods. We offer Activated Carbon, for Chemical Filtration or HEPA Filters, for Particulate, or a combination if your application requires.

  • Enhanced Safety: Designed to protect users from inhaling harmful fumes, the recirculating system ensures that hazardous substances are contained and filtered efficiently.
  • Energy Efficiency: The closed-loop system eliminates the need for external ducting, reducing energy costs associated with traditional fume cupboards.
  • Space-Saving Design: Ideal for laboratories or spaces without access to external exhaust systems, the compact design makes installation easier and more versatile.
  • Cost-Effective: With no need for costly ductwork, installation and maintenance costs are significantly reduced.

The Filtration Fume Cupboard operates by drawing air into the unit through the front sash.

As air passes through the system, it is filtered by high-performance particulate and activated carbon filters, which trap harmful chemicals, fumes, and particulates. Clean, filtered air is then recirculated back into the workspace.

The unit is equipped with variable airflow control to ensure that the flow rate is optimised for the specific needs of the user. Additionally, real-time data on airflow and filter performance is available through the digital interface, ensuring that the system continues to operate safely and efficiently.

Recirculating clean air back into your laboratory or working environment ensures that Ductless Fume Hood solutions are more environmentally friendly than a Ducted option, and the environmental impact of exhausting fumes to the outside atmosphere.

  • Laboratories: Used in chemical, biological, and pharmaceutical labs to safely contain and filter hazardous fumes and chemicals.
  • Education: Ideal for schools and universities with limited access to external ventilation systems.
  • Industrial Environments: Provides protection in environments where hazardous materials are handled but external exhausts are not feasible.
  • Research and Development: An essential tool for scientists working with volatile substances that require containment but do not necessitate a full-scale fume extraction system.
  • Base Stand | with Lockable Castors | with Vented Under Cupboard
  • Spillage Tray | Polypropylene | 316 Stainless Steel
  • Rear Stainless Steel Scaffolding System
  • Services | Water | Gas
  • Cable Entry Points
  • Double Electrical Sockets

What is a Recirculating Fume Cupboard?

A Recirculating Fume Cupboard, also known as a ductless fume cupboard, is a type of laboratory equipment designed to capture hazardous fumes, vapours, and particulates. Instead of venting these contaminants outside, the cupboard uses advanced filtration technology to clean the air and return it to the room, making it an eco-friendly and flexible solution.

What Are the Key Benefits of Recirculating Fume Cupboards?

  1. Eco-Friendly Design: No need for ducting reduces energy loss and environmental impact.
  2. Cost-Effective Installation: No external ductwork means lower setup costs.
  3. Flexibility: Easily moved and reinstalled for changing laboratory layouts.
  4. Safety: High-performance filtration systems protect users and the environment.
  5. Compliance: Meets stringent safety and environmental regulations.

What Applications Are Recirculating Fume Cupboards Suitable For?

Our Recirculating Fume Cupboards are ideal for:

  • Chemistry labs handling volatile compounds.
  • Pharmaceutical research requiring controlled environments.
  • Educational institutions for safe learning demonstrations.
  • Industrial processes involving hazardous materials.

How Do Recirculating Fume Cupboards Work?

These cupboards use multi-stage filtration systems to purify the air:

  • Pre-Filters: Capture large particles and dust.
  • Activated Carbon Filters: Adsorb chemical vapours and gases.
  • HEPA Filters (Optional): Remove particulates for ultra-clean air. The purified air is then safely recirculated back into the workspace.

What Types of Filters Are Available?

Monmouth Scientific offers a range of filters to suit diverse applications:

  • General Purpose Carbon Filters: Suitable for most common laboratory chemicals.
  • Specialised Carbon Filters: For specific chemicals like ammonia or formaldehyde.
  • HEPA Filters: For particulate filtration where required.

How Often Should Filters Be Replaced?

Filter replacement intervals depend on usage and the type of contaminants handled. On average:

  • Carbon filters: Every 6-12 months
  • HEPA filters: Every 12-18 months

Our team provides detailed maintenance guidance to ensure optimal performance.

What Maintenance Do Recirculating Fume Cupboards Require?

To maintain safety and efficiency:

  • Regularly inspect pre-filters and main filters.
  • Perform airflow and filter integrity tests as per regulatory guidelines.
  • Keep the cupboard’s surfaces clean and free from obstructions. Monmouth Scientific offers service contracts to handle these tasks for you.

Are Recirculating Fume Cupboards Safe?

Yes. All our recirculating fume cupboards are designed to comply with BS EN 14175-2:2020 standards, ensuring reliable performance and user safety.

  • Compliance with international safety standards such as EN 14175.

How Do Recirculating Fume Cupboards Compare to Ducted Models?

Feature Recirculating Fume Cupboards Ducted Fume Cupboards
Installation Cost Lower Higher
Environmental Impact Minimal Higher
Flexibility High Low
Operating Cost Medium Medium-High
Filtration Requires Regular Replacement No Filters Required

Recirculating fume cupboards are a great choice for labs needing flexibility and cost-efficiency, while ducted models are better suited for high-volume contaminant removal.
