Monmouth Scientific's team provide service and maintenance to all makes and models of ducted and filtration fume cupboards.

Filtration Fume Cabinets
The current British Standard for Filtration Fume Cabinets, BS7989:2001 gives detailed requirements regarding the regular testing of this equipment, however some servicing companies choose NOT to carry out all the tests in order to offer a ‘cheaper service’. By missing out some of these vital tests, you can be putting the end users at risk.

Tests that should be carried out and recorded as standard include:

  • Overall Inspection, including electrical systems
  • Airflow velocity check – with calibrated instrumentation
  • Containment test – using smoke tubes
  • Carbon Filter Saturation Test – using Propanol and hotplate*
  • Particulate Filter Test – using smoke generator and photometer*

Tests marked with * are often omitted by some service companies to save costs, time and avoid their expense of having to invest in test equipment.
Monmouth carries them out as STANDARD on all visits.

Ducted Fume Cabinets

Ducted cabinets are often seen as simple items, but it is important to remember that these are valuable pieces of health and safety equipment and their correct function is vital to operator safety.

Tests that should be carried out and recorded as standard include:

  • Overall Inspection, including electrical systems
  • Airflow velocity check and adjustment – with calibrated instrumentation
  • Containment test – using smoke tubes
  • Complete ductwork check for leaks and damage
  • Checking external fan for weather ingress and safe operation
  • Checking of all sash wires to ensure corrosion free

Monmouth carries them out as STANDARD on all visits.
